{"id":10017,"date":"2019-05-12T15:42:48","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T15:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/?p=10017"},"modified":"2022-08-16T03:58:08","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T03:58:08","slug":"backyard-weddings-dos-and-do-nots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/backyard-weddings-dos-and-do-nots\/","title":{"rendered":"Backyard Weddings Do&#8217;s and Do Not&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You\u2019re\nplanning your dream-day wedding and you\u2019ve picked out your dress, picked out\nthe bridesmaid\u2019s dresses, and now for the hard part: the seating chart!\nSeriously, though, there are other things that you need to consider so that you\ncan keep your wedding day safe and legal \u2013 especially if you are having a\nbackyard wedding, in Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nyou are doing all the organizing, catering and decorating, the backyard wedding\ncan be more stressful than a wedding venue and a wedding planner, but a home\nwedding is certainly cheaper. And, let\u2019s be honest, nothing is as intimate as\nyour home. If you are lucky enough to have a fabulous backyard, you should take\nadvantage of it by adding lanterns and string lights to create a natural and\nfabulous backdrop for your special day. Here are some other things to consider,\nwhile you are in the planning stages: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You\u2019ll need to consider the size of the guest list and how you\u2019ll accommodate the cars and the people, should the weather turn foul. Consider a tent right now in the planning stages \u2013 as it automatically adds a \u2018ceiling\u2019 to decorate if the stars aren\u2019t cooperating and shade if the sun is just too hot! And if you add a little greenery to the ceiling or tables, you\u2019ll bring the outside in. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Don\u2019t skimp on seating &#8211; get plenty. And not just for the ceremony seating \u2013 have extra scattered about to help guests be able to truly relax, enjoy the moment and the backyard ambiance. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Games help guests wait for photos or food \u2013 consider corn hole, horse shoes or even croquet. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You\u2019ll also need to be careful that your kitchen and electrical setup won\u2019t pose food-prep problems, so plan to have help in food preparation and off-site storage. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you are having open fires or live music, you\u2019ll&nbsp; need to check with your municipality about night-time noise ordnances, open fire permits and even parking concerns. A permit or two might be necessary \u2013 so get that out of the way, right now! You might even have to have a fire marshal do a walk through your home or tent to make sure that exits are marked, there&#8217;s a fire extinguisher on the premises, candles are all enclosed, etc.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you are bringing in portable restrooms, make sure the company that you are renting from is taking care of any health-department permits. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Signature cocktails are \u2018in,\u2019 this year \u2013 so offer a garden cocktail with edible flowers or an assorted whiskey-tasting station. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>While we&#8217;re talking cocktails, study ABC Consulting\u2019s handy infographic to find out if you need to have a one-day alcohol license.
