Every brewery in Virginia sells beer, but\nsome now sell growlers. What is a growler and is YOUR bursiness allowed to sell\nthem? &nbsp;Growlers are reusable and refillable containers that can hold beer or\nwine \u2013 they are designed to be filled and sealed on premises for off-premises\nconsumption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"961\" src=\"http:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/growler-craft-beer-1200x961.png\" alt=\"Growler Laws - ABC Consulting\" class=\"wp-image-13633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/growler-craft-beer.png 1200w, https:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/growler-craft-beer-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/growler-craft-beer-768x615.png 768w, https:\/\/vaabc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/growler-craft-beer-600x481.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Below are\nthe VA ABC regulations for selling growlers: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Must\nbe in a reusable glass, ceramic, or metal container<\/li><li>Must\nbe re-sealable closure<\/li><li>Can be sold up until midnight<\/li><li>Sales can resume at 6am<\/li><li>Must be a licensed Restaurant with Wine and Beer On and\nOff-Premises privilege, <strong>OR<\/strong><\/li><li>Must be licensed as a Gourmet Shop with Wine and Beer\nOff-Premises privilege and meet gourmet food sales\/inventory requirements to\ncomply as a \u201cgourmet shop\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sizes: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Beer or\nCider<\/strong> can be in containers up to 128 oz (translating to 4L). In\nlegalize (from code 3VAC5-40-30) Beer and cider may be sold for off-premises consumption by\npersons licensed to sell beer and cider for off-premises consumption in\ngrowlers with a maximum capacity of 128 fluid ounces or if in metric size\ncontainers, four liters.<\/li><li><strong>Wine<\/strong> can be put\nin containers up to 64 oz (translating to 2L). In legalize (from code\n3Vac5-40-30) Wine\nmay be sold for off-premises consumption in growlers with a maximum capacity of\n64 fluid ounces or, for metric size containers, two liters. Wine sold in\ngrowlers may only be sold by persons licensed to sell wine for both on-premises\nand off-premises consumption and by gourmet shop licensees. Wine sold by\ngourmet shop licensees shall be labeled with the (i) manufacturer&#8217;s name or\ntrade name, (ii) place of production, (iii) net contents in fluid ounces, and (iv)\nname and address of the retailer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaabc.com\/\">ABC Consulting<\/a> can help your business through providing guidance for staying in compliance with growler regulations in Virginia.
