The liquor laws in Virginia just keep loosening their belts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Monday, at least 45 Virginia distilleries can now FedEx or UPS their liquor directly to customers \u2014 at least for the duration of the coronavirus state of emergency. The news came came via an announcement on the ABC\u2019s website<\/a> and Twitter account<\/a> Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distillery must have an existing Virginia ABC license, as a distillery store. Only six bottles per distillery, per month, may be shipped to a single customer. Also, no jugs larger than 1.75 liters will be allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And, of course, the distillery must verify the age of the purchaser and require a signature upon receipt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This announcement follows a machine-gun patter of changes to the state\u2019s alcohol laws, as the coronavirus remakes the restaurant and retail landscape. On March 20, restaurants gained the ability to deliver wine and beer to customers\u2019 houses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on March 26, distilleries\u00a0gained the permanent right to personally deliver bottles of booze<\/a>\u00a0to customers. In the press release Monday, the Virginia ABC specified that distilleries may also use third party vendors, such as GrubHub or Doordash, to make these home deliveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legal shipping, at least for the duration of the coronavirus crisis, will increase distilleries\u2019 potential customer base to include the entire state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
