We aren\u2019t attorneys and if you need legal advice, we recommend you seek an attorney, but we can tell you this: If you are selling alcohol or giving alcohol to your guests, without a license, that is illegal. With a bed &amp; breakfast license, overnight and paying lodgers can be provided complimentary alcoholic beverages. Here are a few more bullet points about this license:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You can only have 15 bedrooms with this license.<\/li><li>You have to provide one meal to your overnight lodgers (doesn\u2019t have to be breakfast, actually).<\/li><li>Make sure you have a map or aerial view of your property as part of your license application &nbsp;\u2013 you may want to designate alcohol being served on a patio, porch or in the dining room.&nbsp;<\/li><li>By the way, if you provide a concierge service (where you shop for your guests), you are allowed to pick them up wine and beer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: You cannot sell the alcohol or upcharge to include the alcohol \u2013 it can only be provided complimentary. You cannot give away alcohol without a license, in the state of Virginia. Giving away a complimentary beverage as part of a service (or an overnight stay) is considered a sale \u2013 we don\u2019t want anyone to get in trouble! &nbsp;Bottom line \u2013 don\u2019t \u201csell\u201d alcohol, if you aren\u2019t licensed. The state of Virginia has arrested several nail salon owners, recently, because they gave away a complimentary alcoholic drink. Forty-five days gives us plenty of time to make sure that your business qualifies and that you are applying for the correct license.
