Banquet licenses are offered for a variety of situations in which alcoholic beverages may be served on a temporary basis, generally for nonprofit purposes.

If ALL of the following criteria are met for the event, then no license is needed (unless required by locality or facility).
- The event is private (i.e., not open to the public and not in a public place).
- Money is not exchanged for alcohol or otherwise.
- The event is not held on a club or non-licensed restaurant premises.
- Alcohol purchased for the event is NOT from a wholesaler/distributor.
In all other cases, a license is needed. These are different situations where a banquet license would be needed and ABC Consulting can help point you to the particulars, once you apply:
Banquet – For private one-day events such as wedding receptions, retirement parties or company celebrations.
Tasting – For cooking classes or community education events. May be granted up to four times per year.
Manufacturer’s Distilled Spirits Event – For a manufacturer of distilled spirits for distilled spirits educational events. May be granted up to eight times per year.
Manufacturer’s Beer/Wine Event – For a manufacturer of beer and wine for craft beer or wine festivals. May be granted up to eight times per year.
Mixed Beverage Club Event – For clubs such as VFW, Elks or American Legion already holding a beer, or wine and beer license that wish to sell and serve mixed beverages.
Banquet/Mixed Beverage Special Event (allowing wine off-premises sales) – For nonprofit events such as festivals, concerts, auctions or other similar fundraising events (including political fundraisers). Allows off-premises wine sales.

Mixed Beverage Special Event – For nonprofit events such as festivals, concerts, auctions or other similar fundraising events (including political fundraisers).

As you can see, applying for a Banquet License isn’t as easy as filling out a form, paying for it, and walking away with your license!
