Four ways to create a special “ahhh” at your Day Spa

The spa’s goal is to tailor each client’s experience to suit them, perfectly, but some decisions suit all (or most) clients, and that is the sweet spot that you base your business model on. Of course you’ll continue to gain information and feedback during treatments, ensuring your client’s comfort, but there are some ways that all spas can accommodate clients that appeal to most:

The scents – use only the finest therapeutic essential oils – don’t use plug ins or candles for scents – use a diffuser with essential oils. They ARE therapeutic for a reason; they reach many senses and actually do slow the senses: specifically breathing and heart rate. They literally calm your client.

The lighting – low lighting, with safety in mind, is key – in all areas, not just the treatment area.

Music – you don’t really ‘hear’ spa music. It is just a continuation of the spa experience. Soothing, melodious and background, it is there to give more privacy to conversation. This is not the final step to complete the comforting and plush environment…

Alcohol – this is the final step to “ahhhh.” Alcohol typically means a celebration or conveys that the day-is-done – and complimentary champagne, wine or beer will certainly enhance the overall spa experience. We have several Day Spa licensees that ABC Consulting is working with, across Virginia. Since you can be arrested for selling alcohol without a license, it is important to know the laws surrounding serving alcohol and for having a license that is recognized by the state of Virginia! Nothing would take the “ahhh!” out of a spa appointment like the owner / operator getting arrested! Don’t do that! Visit ABC Consulting to fill out the application. Here are the rules, surrounding alcohol, at Day Spas:

ABC Consulting. Spa's alcohol license

If your “Day Spa” is a commercial establishment that offers, to the public, both massage therapy, performed by persons certified in accordance with § 54.1-3029, and barbering or cosmetology services, performed by persons licensed in accordance with Chapter 7 (§ 54.1-700 et seq.) of Title 54.1 and wants to offer alcohol, you can (with the right license)! This license allows the consumption of lawfully acquired wine and beer by each customer of no more than two 5-ounce glasses of wine or one 12-ounce beer, during each visit. The alcoholic beverages may not be sold and shall be inclusive in the total charge of the “Day Spa” services received.
