Born and raised in Scott County, Virginia, Mr. Dorton relocated to Buchanan County, Virginia in 1977, accepted a position with the Town of Grundy Police Department. He worked there for 3 years and then began his career with Richland’s Police Department, as a Patrolman. He accepted a promotion to the Investigation Division as a Criminal Investigator in 1987. In 1993, along with regular duties as an Investigator, he became a member of the newly-formed Tazewell County Task Force as a Narcotic Investigator, working with many narcotics cases, to include several undercover narcotic purchases. Mr. Dorton accepted a promotion to Lieutenant of the Investigations Division of the Richland’s Police Department in 1998, holding that position until 2010. At that time, he transferred back to the Patrol Division in order to begin a part-time position with Cumberland Security as a Private Investigator. July 2011 consisted of his appointment to Chief of Police for the Richland’s Police Department, until retiring in July 2018. With a total of 41 years of service in Law Enforcement, Mr. Dorton is an amazing resource and addition to our ABC Consulting team!
