Just Approved: Miss Molly’s Inn

ABC Consulting provides online training for bartenders and waitstaff of Virginia restaurants. We also provide consulting services for those same restaurants. But we also serve convenience stores, day spas and Bed & Breakfasts. Why B&B’s? Because THEY can serve alcohol, too. We offer all of these businesses in person, onsite seller/server training, help with MBAR reporting, support and attendance at hearings and reminders for renewing licenses and permits. That is all part of our consulting package. One of our clients, Miss Molly’s Inn, has a Bed & Breakfast license. They can now add alcohol to their packages. And they DO!

Miss Molly’s Inn’s Cheese tray – add wine for your arrival

Here are the parameters behind serving alcohol at a Bed & Breakfast:

  • Miss Molly’s Inn cannot consist of no more than 15 bedrooms available for rent
  • Miss Molly’s Inn has to offer transitory lodging (or non-permanent sleeping accommodations) to the public, in exchange for compensation
  • Miss Molly’s Inn has to offer at least one meal per day (does not need not be breakfast) to each person to whom overnight lodging is provided

Here are some ideas for YOUR Bed & Breakfast, so you can do what Miss Molly’s Inn does:

  • Champagne waiting in your room, upon arrival
  • Wine & Cheese tray
  • Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries

This charming inn provides modern conveniences (such as WiFi and Air-Conditioning) but it boasts a location of Chincoteague Island. Several parlors and porches invite reading and sipping and planning your afternoon at the beach. Using the alcohol license to boost sales was a great idea for Miss Molly’s Inn:

  • They offer wine complimentary with many of their packages
  • They give guests small complimentary prosecco splits to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries
  • They run specials to encourage ‘off-season’ bookings (i.e. a fall “Free Bubbles” package where sparkling wine is offered with a two-night booking or a wine and cheese tray with a Thanksgiving booking)
  • They also provide a couple of lovely sparkling wines, a red and a white, at cost, upon booking

These add-on specials work as an enticement to book – they don’t make money from any alcohol sales, but they book more rooms by adding the convenience and upgrade.
