Virginia ABC licensing — your questions, answered.

Getting Licensed

It depends on the license. One-day event licenses are typically approved in about 15 days. Retail licenses include a 30-day public objection period that begins with the first of two required legal newspaper publications.

Restaurants and bars generally need a mixed-beverage or on-premises license; stores need an off-premises license; manufacturers and wholesalers need state and federal licenses. We’ll identify the exact one.

After you apply for a retail or industry license, the public has 30 days to object in writing to the Authority. The clock starts with your first legal newspaper publication.
